I don't normally write (I am slow at it, and more of a creative dork than a genius), which is surprising considering that we started a blog with the whole idea of recording our travels, and someone obviously had to do the writing. I am more suited to editing people's work, and providing alternatives and suggestions based on their intended purpose, be it a business report, or even a script. We also had numerous topics on hand we wanted to write about, but just could not decide where to start. Or maybe I was just procrastinating... "Just start by writing about our trip!" Leann said. I did want to wait till we had more readers on our blog, but then again, it's all a chicken and egg problem, isn't it? If you don't start writing, how do you get people to follow?
So here goes.
"200 Days in a Backpack" is our version of our dream RTW trip that will commence on 13 Aug 2015. It's been kind of what people are doing in recent years and nothing new really. We also do have friends and acquaintances we met in our years of travel who have been there and done that. But the truth is, every RTW trip is different. The world IS BIG, mind you. There are millions of possible routes around the world, with new routes added everyday. The routes also change drastically with increased connectivity and rapidly changing landscapes (environmental and political). All I am saying is that everyone's experience is unique. The same route trodden could mean different things to different people. It's dependent on so many factors from the macro such as political situation, to the micro, right down to the shoes you wore that day.
So although many have already done it or are still doing it, our upcoming trip, considering our backgrounds and profile, is still a route never done before and a rare experience many dream to have.
Oh wait... So where are we going?
4 continents. 25 countries. More than 95 cities/towns. All in 200 days. Crazy? Maybe. I actually think so too. But before you think we are actually trying to kill ourselves, let me just establish the fact that we are seasoned budget backpackers, having done about 33+ countries between us. We do know our limits in terms of packing our itinerary, and have also catered for buffer days every now and then. More importantly, this is a world trip, it's rather pointless to plan right down into detail, so we are pretty open and flexible with changes on our route.
So here we leave you with our travel map. Our later posts will show you how we will be preparing all this, and also give you a rough outline of the dates so that you could meet us, or even host us on our travels!

Lotsa Love,
Vik & Leann
